Toro Cerveza – Artisan Beer from the Basque Country

This is small-batch cerveza beer, brewed here in the fertile Basque using our pure water from the hills and our own green hops.

First brewed over 80 years ago by local shepherd Jose Arrate in a small batch brewery located in a cool cave using gravity to feed the brewing process. The mountain water provides a pale straw colour and clean finish. The local green hops and malt are carefully checked before each brew to ensure the full flavour profile.

Delivered by horse and cart until 2002. There have only ever been three Cervecero delivering beer for the brewery.

Gradually suppled surrounding villages and became a firm local favourite in chiringuitos and bars.

In 2012 the local community built a brewery extension so more Toro could be produced to quench the thirst of our sun drenched villages.

Toro now employs 15 people in 24 hour production and the paper ordering system is now being replaced, but our traditional daily delivery routes remain.

Cerveza Exclusivo

Due to local restrictions and traditions, and by order of the local mayor, Toro can only be sold outside of the region in small batches and is transported in small chilled containers to preserve the authentic taste of Spain.

Toro remains fiercely independent and run by the community.

Toro represents the passion of the region, and the traditional skill and patience needed to make flavoursome cerveza beer that is cold conditioned for ten weeks in traditional tanks.
